Allergology and Clinical Immunology

The specialty of Allergology and Clinical Immunology deals with the study of allergic diseases, a
diseases and disimmune syndromes, which include immunoregulation disorders and immunodeficiencies.

Allergology deals with detection and diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment (medications
and/or immunotherapy), medical assistance and recovery of patients with allergic diseases (diseases of
hypersensitivity initiated by immunological mechanisms).

Clinical immunology deals with the dysfunctions of the immune system, as well as with the immunological aspects of diseases in which the immune system is involved. Clinical immunology care is usually carried out in the framework of multidisciplinary medical care, and includes, as appropriate, immunological treatments for patients with diseases and disimmune syndromes by non-surgical means and
non-radiotherapy.

Patients who consult an allergist may suffer from conditions such as:
- respiratory diseases (allergic rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonia, bronchiolitis);
- skin conditions (eczema, contact dermatitis, urticaria, edema/angioedema);
- anaphylaxis/anaphylactic shock;
- digestive disorders caused by the immune response to food (food allergies);
- allergies/adverse reactions to medicines (anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, local anesthetics, etc.);
- parasites or other infectious diseases with manifestations similar to allergies;
- hematological changes (hypereosinophilia, Hyper IgE, etc.);
- immunological deficits, hereditary/non-hereditary angioedema;
- diseases associated with autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases (collagenosis, vasculitis, other systemic diseases);
- diseases from internal medicine pathology with possible causes and allergic/allergic-like mechanisms;
- allergic reactions to hymenoptera venom (bees, wasps), anesthetics, etc
