Urology is the medical-surgical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. The anatomical organs and structures in the field of urology are the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, as well as the male reproductive organs: testicles, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis.
The urinary and reproductive tracts are intimately connected, and very often diseases of one system will affect the complementary system.
Genitourinary disorders represent the field of pathology that urology deals with, both from a medical point of view, such as in the case of urinary infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia and their conservative treatment, as well as the surgical cure of conditions such as renal, bladder, and malignant tumors prostatic, renal or bladder lithiasis, congenital malformations, reno-urinary trauma and stress incontinence.
